I seem to have lost my brain sometime during the past week, possibly in the vicinity of Long Beach. Slightly used. If found, please return. $50.00 reward.

or an American equivalent.

Here's the orchestra's string quintet in a recent performance:

I wonder what the audition excerpts would look like. Perhaps something like this:

Clarinet:
Mozart Clarinet Concerto - 1st movement
My Neighbor Totoro - mm 16-64
Super Mario Brothers - Underwater theme
Swing de Chocobo - cadenza
Final Fantasy VII - One-Winged Angel (solo)

It looks like the wifi part of my router is dead. Stupid Internets. It stopped broadcasting last night. I tried to reset it today but it doesn't seem to be responding at all. Even when I'm plugged in it's slow as dial up.

Anyone have any recommendations for routers? Should I suck it up and go back to wired? I've been using wireless as of late but I'm sure the extra speed from wired internet would be nice too.

Where were you last night?

Dead Like Me movie and Season 3?

  • Jul. 7th, 2007 at 10:51 AM
Rube
From Ellen Muth's myspace page:

Just to let all you DLMers out there know that this past week, I have been informed that after this "Dead Like Me" movie comes out, it may, go back to series. After seeing the movie, you'll have to be the judge of whether or not you like the new concept. Give it a chance. I know we all hate change but it has been two years since season 2 so there has to be evolution.

However, since Mandy Patinkin (Rube) and Laura Harris (Daisy, Daisy Adair) are currently involved in other shows, they will not be in the movie. I hope they don't ruin it now. The first two seasons were so good.

That's a mighty tasty burger.

Everyone knows about the usual "best hamburger" spots in L.A.; In-N-Out, Tommy's, and to a lesser extent, Fatburger, but that's just the beginning. My brother and his girlfriend decided to try out some of the lesser known spots and I tagged along. Here's the results:

The classic: Apple Pan
Directly across the street from the Westside Pavillion near UCLA, this place looks unchanged since it opened in 1947. If you're into the In-N-Out style burger, this is your place. It's just bun, meat, cheese, sauce. If you're going the fancy route, they even have a bbq sauce. Also not the best place if you're hoping to have a conversation with a group of people. There are no booths, just a U-shaped counter. They only take cash and there's usually a wait just to sit at the counter. You never know who you'll see in this town. The Friday night we went there, Jorge Garcia (Hurley) from "Lost" was sitting at the other end of the counter. Pies are excellent as well with a variety to choose from including banana cream, pecan, and chocolate cream.

The over-indulgent: Lucky Devils
Located on an un-Disneyfied section of Hollywood Blvd. just a few shops down from Ashton Kutcher's Geisha House, Lucky Devils has spared no expense on its menu. You only get two choices for meat patties: Angus beef and Kobe. Unlike Apple Pan, there is the option of vegetarian patty. Accompanying each burger is garlic aioli sauce, caramelized onions, and a generous helping of fresh french fries. For those not morally opposed to the consumption of animals, I highly recommend the Kobe burger with blue cheese and bacon. Their desserts are equally decadent. Their drinks include a chocolate cake shake (made with Scharffenberger chocolate), pecan shake, and a hot fudge malt (also made with Scharffenberger). Their brownie ala mode (made with Scharffenberger and Valrhona chocolate) is amazing and can easily feed you and three of your best friends.

The moderate: The Counter
The only one of the three that is actually a chain restaurant with three locations across California. The Santa Monica location is on the east side of the city on Ocean Park, far from the rush of the pier and Third Street. Despite its secluded location, there was a 30 minute wait on a Sunday evening. Upon entry of the Counter, the customer is given a form to custom design their burger with choices of meat (or non-meat), toppings, and sauces. They also have a variety of sides such as pickles, fries (with cheese and/or chili), sweet potato fries, and salad. In addition to their regular menu of burgers and drinks, they also feature a burger and shake of the month, this month's being mahi-mahi and churro, respectively. Their shake of the month was hands down the best milk shake I have ever had. Creamy, slightly sweet, with chunks of actual churro mixed in. Go to: http://www.thecounterburger.com/ for more info.

Elevator music

I was at USC today to play in the undergrad music composition recital. With the amount of rain, the bassoonist was extremely late. As I was leaving, I noticed some harp music in the four story music building. While standing in the lobby, the extremely large elevator stopped at the bottom floor. It's either a shortage of practice rooms or just an affinity for the elevator that got this harp player to set up shop in there. She had a music stand, her harp stool, and harp. She must've been there a while because she didn't even acknowledge the people staring at her on each floor or when people got in to actually take the elevator. It was funny to watch her return to the ground floor and see how people react to te elevator music.

And no, I'm not high.

According to a friend of mine, back home in Korea, blood type is often used to determine the personality type of a person. Seeing this at thinkgeek.com, http://www.thinkgeek.com/geektoys/science/8f3d/ , (I made myself bleed through other means, not by slicing my finger), I decided to give it a try. It turns out I'm A positive. Here's what that means:

According to Nomi's theory, those with type A blood tend to be reserved, punctual, and law-abiding, while type Os tend to be more outgoing, passionate, and driven; it is for this reason they are often considered "warrior" spirits. Type Bs are said to be loners and self-sufficient, as "hunters," while ABs are said to be serious and solitary by nature.

Type A blood is the most common in Japan and Germany while type O is most prevalent in the United States.

Best Traits: Conservative, introverted, reserved, patient and punctual. Perfectionists.
Worst Traits: Obsessive, stubborn, self conscious and uptight.
Famous As: George H. W. Bush, Ayumi Hamasaki, O.J. Simpson, Britney Spears, Alan Alda, Adolf Hitler, Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard Nixon, Jet Li, Maki Nomiya, Rick James

Almost Perfect- INFP

26% Extraversion, 73% Intuition, 46% Thinking, 40% Judging

So, you want to make the world a better place? Too bad it's never gonna happen.

Of all the types, you have to be one of the hardest to find fault in. You have a selfless and caring nature. You're a good listener and someone who wants to avoid conflict. You genuinely desire to do good.

Of course, these all add up to an incredibly overpowered conscience which makes you feel guilty and responsible when anything goes wrong. Of course, it MUST be your fault EVERYTIME.

Though you're constantly on a mission to find the truth, you have no use for hard facts and logic, which is a source of great confusion for those of us with brains. Despite this, in a losing argument, you're not above spouting off inaccurate fact after fact in an effort to protect your precious values.

You're most probably a perfectionist, which in this case, is a bad thing. Any group work is destined to fail because of your incredibly high standards.

Disregard what I said before. You're just easy to find fault in as everyone else!

Luckily, you're generally very hard on yourself, meaning I don't need to waste my precious time insulting you. Instead, just find all your own faults and insult yourself.

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The West

Your accent is the lowest common denominator of American speech. Unless you're a SoCal surfer, no one thinks you have an accent. And really, you may not even be from the West at all, you could easily be from Florida or one of those big Southern cities like Dallas or Atlanta.
